How to back up and export your snippets

Updated July 11, 2026· Plain-text version

KeyPaste lets you export a complete backup of your library and Inbox at any time. Export is free.

Export your data

  • On iPhone / iPad: open Settings inside KeyPaste and choose the export option.
  • On Mac: use File → Export…, or the Export option in Settings.

You can choose one of three scopes: All content, Library only, or Inbox only (All content is the default).

What the backup contains

The export produces a versioned KeyPaste Export.keypaste-export file, a zip package containing a manifest, your data, and an attachments folder. It covers:

  • Library snippets and Inbox entries
  • Attachments (text, rich text, images, files)
  • Tags and their order, folders, and folder ordering

Some things are intentionally left out because they are device- or account-specific: the import queue, keyboard/Widget snapshots, internal CloudKit state, deletion records, purchase status, the current system clipboard, caches, and local preferences.

Why export

Keep an offline copy, or archive the library yourself. KeyPaste stores content on the device and syncs only through your own iCloud. Importing an export package back into the app is not available yet.
